Virtual desktops are very nice, but sometimes you want a window to appear on every desktop. For example, maybe you need a small chat window or an alarm clock always visible.
In that case you can use the previously mentioned "sticky" button which will pin the window onto the background so it will appear on every virtual desktop.
The top figure shows the sticky button turned off, and on the bottom it is turned on.
